AN EDUCATED COMMUNITY OF TOMORROW'S LEADERS

GAAC engages in activities designed to educate peers on global issues, while raising awareness about thinking and a global level. Below are some of the ways that GAAC is an involved entity in the local community of students.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE ORIENTATION SEMINARS

The Model United Nations is an important club at Ransom Everglades Upper School, attending conferences regularly at events such as Global Classrooms. Before these conferences, delegates normally conduct their own research to prepare themselves for the topic of the conference, ranging from atomic energy to drone proliferation. GAAC is establishing orientation seminars one week prior to Model United Nations conferences to educate the delegates on these global issues to better prepare them for their conference.

SPEECH AND DEBATE TUTORING

In order to further reinforce our school’s speech and debate program, our club aims to integrate global trends and issues to improve cases and speeches. The team will teach participants debate fundamentals and structure as well as give tips on speech improvement while implementing current events as case evidence. By opening our members’ minds to debate and speech, discussions will be more enriching and fruitful. Therefore, our debate program will not only be a supplement to the debate team, but also a resource to debate formally and informally about global issues and policies. These tutoring sessions will mainly take place one to two weeks prior to debate competitions.

AFFAIR FORUMS

AFFAIR FORUMS encompasses one of GAAC’s most iconic activities. Once a month, club members will meet after school for a presentation and discussion about a specific global issue. The volunteer presenter will lead a discussion that commences with a short video or clip regarding the issue, followed by a speech regarding information and their view on the subject matter. Ultimately, this leads into a socratic seminar in which people can participate in a discussion about the subject from different perspectives. A more sporadic club activity that will be integrated into TED TUES would be problem solving competitions, in which the audience, after hearing the presentation, will assemble to create solutions for persisting global issues.

GLOBAL FUNDRAISERS

GAAC will be organizing national and international fundraisers pertaining to global issues discussed in the forums. By doing so, students will have the opportunity to become directly involved in the current events they learn about.
